These days, it feels like things change quickly and without warning, but there are certainly still some parts of the holiday season that retain some of the good, old-fashioned traditions of yesteryear. While the holiday season is more commercialized than ever, technology has made it more viable to spend these times of laughter, leisure, and cheer with loved ones, even if you’re far apart physically.
Let’s examine some of the technologies that allow families to connect or gift each other for the holidays, even if they cannot be together in-person.
Businesses are used to video chat technology that allows them to communicate with employees and customers through the Internet, but the same technology is also available to consumers who want to stay in touch with their loved ones or connect over the holidays. Video options include Zoom, Skype, Facetime, and Facebook Messenger. It might only be through a screen, but it’s better than not seeing them at all.
Gift giving is often difficult for some families, but nowadays, you don’t have to be present to send a gift that shows you care. You can send digital gift cards through your email or a message, allowing your loved ones to get themselves something nice, all thanks to the connective power of the Internet!
There are all kinds of ways to purchase gifts these days, and around the holidays, the last thing you want to do is go to a physical store and deal with the mobs of people who come out of the woodwork to get last-minute gifts. You can likely find anything you want or need, and even have your gifts prewrapped for you, through online storefronts like Amazon. It’s a great way to avoid some of the stress that inevitably comes from the holiday season.
Sometimes you want to avoid social media around the holidays, but there are also opportunities to connect in ways that you might not initially consider. You might see some pretty incredible things during the holidays, and you can use social media to organize events and parties, if that’s your thing.
